Publication date: August 19th 2013
Genres: Dystopia, Young Adult

Synopsis:

Remy Alexander was born into the elite meritocracy of the Okarian Sector. From an early age, she and her friends were programmed for intellectual and physical superiority through specialized dietary regimes administered by the Okarian Agricultural Consortium. But when her older sister Tai was murdered in a brutal classroom massacre, her parents began to suspect foul play. They fled the Sector, taking their surviving daughter underground to join the nascent Resistance movement. But now, three years later, Remy’s former schoolgirl crush, Valerian OrleĆ”n, is put in charge of hunting and destroying the Resistance. As Remy and her friends race to unravel the mystery behind her sister’s murder, Vale is haunted by the memory of his friendship with Remy and is determined to find out why she disappeared. As the Resistance begins to fight back against the Sector, and Vale and Remy search for the answers to their own questions, the two are set on a collision course that could bring everyone together—or tear everything apart.

YOUR TOP 10 FICTIONAL CHARACTERS [MALE]

1.          Four (Divergent by Veronica Roth) – Four is, hands-down, my favorite part of the entire Divergent series. He deserves someone way more interesting than Tris (say, me?).

2.          Frederick Wentworth (Persuasion by Jane Austen) – At first I thought I’d go for William Darcy (of Pride and Prejudice fame), but in the end I picked the less rich and way underappreciated Captain Wentworth. He is patient, successful not by birth but by his own hard work and determination, and knows a good woman when he sees one.

3.          Will Cooper (Slammed by Colleen Hoover) – I didn’t expect to fall for Will Cooper so hard. Colleen did a wonderful job creating a fully-fleshed out love interest that has his own motivations, desires, and struggles aside from a pining love for the heroine. He is smart, thoughtful, conflicted, and despite having a lot on his plate, handles it like a mature, decent human might.

4.          Augustus Waters (The Fault in Our Stars by John Green) – Augustus Waters is wonderful, John Green is wonderful, maybe I can just marry them both?

5.          Akiva (Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor) – First things first, Akiva is a serap, which is basically an angel, and translates to “burning one” and I can only imagine what kinds of good things Akiva could work up with his fiery self.

6.          Dexter (This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen) – Dexter is my favorite manic pixie dream boy. He is the funny, free-spirited boy on this list who is just so irresistibly adorable. He always down for a challenge, especially if it’s ridiculous like eating as many bananas as he can.

7.          Aragorn (Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien) – All I have to say is, uh...duh!!! Aragorn is sexy, mysterious, smart, badass, awesome, amazing, incredible, a King, and, best of all, he knows his way around his sword (which happens to be basically the most powerful sword in all of Middle Earth...wink wink)

8.          Westley (The Princess Bride by S. Morgenstern) – He is devoted, would do exactly as I wish, and is immune to iocane poison so I don’t even have to worry about that killing him off should a jealous rival of his try to murder him.

9.          Edmund Dantes (The Count of Monte Cristo) – Like Aragorn and Westley, Edmund is an excellent swordsman, which, clearly, is important to me. Plus, he has boatloads of money and is uncommonly devoted to his causes, which, in a perfect world, would include me.

10.      Mr Rochester (Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte) -- He is the epitome of the mysterious and brooding tall, dark, and handsome man. Need I say any more?

AUTHOR BIO:

K. Makansi is the pen name for the writing triumvirate consisting of Amira, Elena, and Kristina Makansi. Two sisters and their mother, the three women developed a passionate interest in science fiction as a way to write about issues of food sovereignty and food justice. Elena is pursuing a degree in environmental studies at Oberlin College in Ohio, and will graduate in May of 2014. Amira was a history student at the University of Chicago whose day job working in the cellar of a winery (and constantly being splattered with wine) keeps her busy when she’s not writing. And Kristy owns and operates Blank Slate Press, an independent publishing company based out of St. Louis, and is a partner at Treehouse Publishing Group, a company providing editorial and design services to aspiring authors. When not writing or reading, the three can be found having animated discussions around the dinner table, sharing a good bottle of wine, or taking long walks in the park eagerly plotting out their next book.

"I'm from Calcutta, India (the kingdom of sweets). I'm a final year college student struggling to get Bachelor of finance honors degree. I love books more than anything and like to hang out with friends, watch horror and action movies and I'm madly in love with vampires and warlocks. Other times you'll find me with a worn out calculator punching the numbers and making accounts and ledgers (study stuff). In leisure time I sit with a book or my e-reader leaving the known world behind and losing her in the new worlds which the author's create. I like to write down my thoughts and ideas regarding a story sometimes but never completed it but I'm planning to do so in future and will like to give a chance to my childhood dream of being a paranormal genre writer."
